Shannon Trust

The Shannon Trust recruits prisoners as volunteer mentors to help other prisoners improve their literacy skills using the Shannon Reading Plan. The volunteers give up half an hour each day to help other prisoners on a one-to-one basis using a Toe by Toe manual. Self-esteem improves as well as literacy. Volunteers outside prison are also used to fulfil liaison roles.

What Can I Do? is produced by pact (Prison Advice and Care Trust) and Churches' Criminal Justice Forum.
